Toledo GROWs Mission:

Nurture the joy of Growing

Our Purpose:

Toledo GROWs educates our community about the value of local nutritious food through an active urban farm and support for community gardens to promote healthy eating and create a region alive with gardens.

We embrace the following core values in fulfilling our mission:

  • Education: Education of all ages and abilities about healthy eating, importance of locally sourced, fresh food and demonstrating various growing methods of taking food from the earth to the table;
  • Community: We strive to build community by facilitating community gardens, self-sufficiency and green neighborhoods. We partner with others to promote awareness of community issues and encourage people to get involved
  • Stewardship: We are regional leaders in urban agriculture, with programs housed at our urban farm in the core of the city. We demonstrate stewardship of our natural resources and participate in research and problem solving in the area of environmental issues, food security, and nutrition.
  • Wellness: We promote better health through education regarding healthy food and provide community members access to healthy, local food while growing healthy food free of harmful chemicals on our urban farm.
  • Support: We support 130 community gardens with access to free seeds, plants, loaning of tools as well as networking and technical expertise. Our knowledgeable staff readily shares their knowledge to support the efforts of all who wish to grow healthy food.
